LEMON GINGER RADLER - MISSION SPRINGS BREWING

Posted on September 20, 2014 by mikescraftbeer

From Mission BC's Mission Springs Brewing comes their "Lemon Ginger Radler" a mix of their Trailblazer Pilsner, California Lemons and an organic ginger root infusion.  The Radler pours a very light cloudy yellow colour with a small white head.  The aroma is dominated by lemons, ginger and an overall sweetness that almost reminds me of a craft pop.  The flavour is if lemonade, ginger, candied ginger, a hint of Pilsner malts and a very mild crisp bite.  The alcohol content comes in at 3% with an IBU of 17.  I am a huge fan of railers and this being a non grapefruit radler makes it even better as it is different!  If you can find a six pack of this beer, buy three of them!

Introducing our FVIPA in bottles at a special Brewmaster Dinner!

Mission Springs Brewing Company’s Trailblazer Pilsner wins GOLD at The Canadian Brewing Awards.

Head Brewer, Kevin Winter is glowing after a late night celebration of it's most recent success.  He was honoured with a Canadian Brewing Award distinction.  The company took GOLD for Trailblazer Pilsner.

The Canadian Brewing Awards have emerged as the premiere competition for judging the quality of Canadian brewed beer.  A Canadian Brewing Awards medal is a widely recognized symbol of brewing excellence in Canada.
Nationally, this is the biggest competition for us brewers and it's just such an honour to be recognized for our hard work and dedication,” said head brewer Kevin Winter, "We're very proud, excited and looking forward to a great summer of selling and drinking fantastic beer!"
The crisp and refreshing Trailblazer Pilsner beer is an ode to the rugged trail builders who have blazed mountain bike trails into the hillsides all over BC. We brewed this beer to quench your thirst after a tough day in the saddle. Partial proceeds go to mountain bike trail stewardship, The FVMBA, Fraser Valley Mountain Biking Association.
“I could not be more proud of our team,” said owner Brock Rodgers. “Two years ago we made a commitment to upgrade our team and our equipment and clearly it is paying off.”
Mission Springs Brewing Company opened its doors in October of 1996. The brewery is a 10 bbl brew house constructed by Newlands Inc., overlooking the Fraser River, in Mission. The brew house setup is comprised of a brew kettle with a combination mash/lauter tun, three open-top fermenters and three uni-conical fermenters. In addition, there are thirteen conditioning/serving tanks for the ten+ beers on tap hidden down in the cellar. We use a single temperature infusion mashing program to produce big flavour and wonderfully balanced beers.
A fully automated 6-head filling machine is used for bottled beer sales, which we sell in our very own liquor store here on location, as well as many other fine establishments throughout the Fraser Valley. We are in the midst of expanding our brewery with first three of eight brand new 3600L outdoor tanks, a grain silo, a 2400L packaging bright tank and a new HLT up in the brewhouse. Exciting times ahead here at Mission Springs.

Notes from the Brewer

We have been very busy around the brewery these days. Bringing the New tank farm online, running our new bottling machine servicing the entire Lower Mainland and Sea to Sky area these days. You can find our beers all over the map these days, be sure to ask your local pub for us on tap, or the bottle shop around the corner, if we’re not already there.
Next week we turn over our brand new canning machine for the very first time and look to flood the market with three of our favourite brands come the first week of May. Maybe you have driven by The Springs lately and noticed the all new giant silo on the east side of the building. It is an impressive silo holding more than twenty two metric tonnes of grain; it will service our brewery with beautiful malt from our friends in Armstrong BC at Gambrinus Malting. We’re ramping things up around here. Our little brewpub is transitioning from the restaurant with a few of its own beers into a full scale production brewing facility with a restaurant.  Even though our size is changing, don’t you worry our dedication to our customers will only grow as we grow.
Hope to see you around the pub soon for a pint!

BC Craft Beer News - Mission Springs a big hit in Seoul

The latest trend for craft brewers is to expand their interests and horizons to Asia, and that is exactly what the Mission Springs Brewing Company has done.

In June of this year, Mission Springs Brewing Company opened their first 40-seat Springs Tap House prototype pub in the Itaewon district of Seoul, South Korea.   This was followed by a second opening in October, in the Cheongdam district.   Both have been witness to such tremendous success that two more Tap Houses are on the drawing board to open in the following year, according to co-owner Brock Rodgers.

Rodgers was visiting his son, Santino, in Korea, in the fall of 2012, and the idea to both open a pub style restaurant and import Mission Springs brews was brought up by local importers, Daniel Kangas and James Pollina, of Indulge Korea.  Only one thing stood in the way - shipping costs.  While it can be somewhat inexpensive to ship cargo to South Korea, shipping empty kegs back for refilling can be extravagantly overpriced, not to mention environmentally unethical.

Now employing fully recyclable kegs and shipping only one way is something that the Mission Springs Brewing Company is expressly proud of.   There is also discussion of opening up a brewery in Seoul within the next couple of years to even further decrease their ecological footprint.  Indulge is now distributing Mission Springs products in kegs to the restaurants and bars, with talk of bottles going soon at the retail level.  Since June, Mission Springs has already sent over 25,000 litres of beer across the Pacific Ocean.

Notes from the Brewer

Another good week had here of brewing up liquid gold at Mission Springs. We went to the kettle with our famous Cream Ale and chalk up another batch of our Fraser Valley IPA too brewed with slightly different hop ratios as we dial in the perfect pint. The week saw another shipment of beer head to South Korea, our second biggest shipment to date. We had a pleasant visit from the people of Canadian Living Magazine for a tour of our little brewery with BIG flavour. Not every day that everyone’s Mother’s favourite magazine wants to talk about beer now is it! Four more barrels arrived for the purpose of aging a couple of different brews. We now have a pretty cool little barrel program going with 3 different types of wood. We are excited to really start showcasing that program in the months and years to come. We bottled off a new batch of our Strongman Ale, and with its higher hopping ratio, we are finding the beer to have much better balance. The high alcohol in the Strongman really deserved a much higher hop note, and boy does it ever now. It’s a great beer, now on tap at in the pub and available in limited liquor stores throughout the lower mainland. Ask your local cold beer and wine store for Mission Springs Brewing Company today and support your local brewery.
